Ok… there is absolutly NO way I can describe to you how Ron Eglash connects the basis of Binary Code (you know, the 10101010101 code that makes all computer devices work) to an African Divination Ritual… but he does and its AWESOME. Check it out

"I am a mathematician, and I would like to stand on your roof." This is how Ron Eglash greeted many African families while researching the intriguing fractal patterns he noticed in villages across the continent. He talks about his work exploring the rigorous fractal math underpinning African architecture, art and even hair braiding.

Logo1501interntruck_2I love this logo.

Did they change it recently… why haven’t I noticed before?

I can’t even tell you when I first noticed it – I just know it was recently… and then I saw it again on the company sign-age on a recent trip around the 610 loop. It actually is the design element that FINALLY got me around to blogging about design I like.

Sooo, I like it.

I love the silver and the lighting effect. I, of course, like the obvious salute to the long open road. I mean this is a pretty dang slick logo for a company that sells big rigs… some of their audience is the same audience for the Buckie’s ooohhh so subtle Beaver (but, that’s another post all together!)

I would imagine in looks great in black & white.

I have to admit that when I see it in traffic it stands out – I go, "oh, there’s that new great logo." It may have something to do with the fact its a new logo and is therefore on new shiny trucks.

I do realize that makes me just a little different than most folks. I most times can’t tell you the name of a company – but I can describe the logo to you… and in the vast sea of logos… this one has done its job and is stuck in my brain. I imagine that a trucking company with a nice, clean, elegant logo – is just a cut above the others… see, the brainwashing is working! Kuddos to the design company that came up with this one.

If you know me, you know I love food. LOVE IT! Bigger than that – I love to make it, prepare it, bake it… you name it. So, you can imagine the holiday season ROX for me.

Anyway, you may have noticed I have a feed from the Simply Recipes Blog on my side bar – I like the site that much… check it almost daily. Today she has an amazing post about saying grace. People from all cultures are writing in the Blessings that they say before meals… and I moved, almost to tears, that this simple thing we do, this thing that almost doesn’t apply to most Americans – to say thank you to God for the food we recieve – like it was a possibility we wouldn’t have it – and God in the end, came through for us… this simple act of saying Thank You – unites us, across religions, cultures, countries…

We here usually let the boys take turns saying Grace… and it is usually the "God is Good, etc…" category. Sometime we get to sing the "Jonny Appleseed" song and if we are REALLY lucky… we get to sing the "Super-Man" prayer.

When the boys let me jump in my prayer is the following,

Mother Spirit, Father God,
Thank you for this food we are about to recieve.
Thank you to Mother Earth that grew it,
Thank you to all those along the way who helped to get it to this table.
As it nourishes our bodies,
Let it nourish the world.
Amen.

A Most Blessed Thanksgiving to You All.

When you are waiting to pull into traffic from a parking lot and the light turns green and a space gets created and a VERY nice person lets you in… your job is to go quickly, as quickly as you can, petal to the metal and get through the light so the VERY nice person who let you in gets to make it through the light as well.

This is especially true if the VERY kind person who let you in is… me!!!
